Tour of Pacific Berry Breeding & Member Potluck

This is a member event for the Monterey Bay chapter of the California Rare Fruit Growers. Please contact us if you are not yet a member and would like to attend.
Established in 2003, Pacific Berry Breeding (PBB) was created to develop proprietary raspberry cultivars for the fresh market on behalf of its owner-partners, Salinas-based Naturipe Berry Growers and Santiago, Chile-based Hortifrut SA. Since 2007, PBB has been an official test site for advanced selections from the University of Arkansas blackberry breeding program. In 2013, PBB began breeding proprietary blackberries, with a focus on primocane-fruiting thornless types. Breeder Ellen Thompson will host a tour of of the caneberry variety development process.
Following the tour we will reconvene for lunch at a chapter member’s nearby orchard homestead.
