2024 Grafting Workshop — RESCHEDULED
February 24 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
$25.00DUE TO A SHIPPING ERROR, OUR GRAFTING WORKSHOP HAS BEEN RE-SCHEDULED TO FEBRUARY 24 FROM 1-4 P.M.
Ready to learn how to graft? Or is it just time to really “up” your grafting game? Join us for our hands-on grafting class, RESCHEDULED to Saturday, February 24, at the Santa Cruz Live Oak Grange, 1900 17th Avenue in Santa Cruz, from 1:00 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free for Monterey Bay CRFG members who volunteer to help at the event, and $25 for members of the general public and for non-volunteering members. Class is limited to 50 participants.
Admission includes the class, a potted Geneva 890 apple rootstock, and your choice from a selection of choice apple scions. Use your phone’s camera to scan this QR code, or simply go to our Zeffy registration page to sign up and reserve your spot!
Additional apple rootstock will be available for $7 each or 5 for $30. Bring a plastic bag for any rootstock you hope to purchase.
We distill, demonstrate and explain for you an easy and efficient grafting technique, then guide all attendees through a practice period performing cuts on sample twigs to develop a feel for the technique. After that, you will select a scion to graft onto your rootstock, to create your own tree. The experienced mentors on hand will help coach and direct you. This streamlined method is applicable for all types of fruit tree grafting.
If you have a grafting knife, please bring it to the event.
Chapter members are encouraged to volunteer for this event. We need:
Setup begins at 12:30 p.m.: open tables, set out chairs, layout materials
Clean-up: after the class (lots of sweeping up so we leave the Grange as immaculate as we find it).
