Special Quinoa Event with Dr. Rick Jellen – August 2nd

Dear CRFG Friends,
We’re thrilled to invite you to a unique and interactive event featuring Dr. Rick Jellen, an international quinoa expert and professor of Plant & Wildlife Sciences at Brigham Young University.
Dr. Jellen is an international quinoa expert and professor at Brigham Young University. Despite Rick’s lofty academic achievements, including being on the team to first publish the quinoa genome and breeding new quinoa varieties (some of which will be on display in the Santa Cruz quinoa plot), he is an engaging speaker who connects well with his audience participants, regardless of their level of quinoa expertise. His presentation will be hands-on amongst the quinoa, teaching us about quinoa and how to best grow in our climate.

4:00 PM – Explore the quinoa plots, orchard, and garden
5:00 PM – Hands-on presentation with Dr. Rick Jellen, right in the quinoa rows
6:00 PM – Potluck dinner (bonus points if your dish includes quinoa!)
Several of Dr. Jellen’s own quinoa varieties will be on display, and you’ll learn firsthand how to grow quinoa successfully in our local climate.
Attendance is limited to 50 people. Please RSVP early and consider carpooling to help with parking. Wear sturdy shoes because the terrain is a bit bumpy (pesky gophers!)
