Apple Tasting at Wilder Ranch
October 18 @ 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Join the Monterey Bay Chapter of the California Rare Fruit Growers on Saturday October 18 at Wilder Ranch State Park as we celebrate the season with our 2025 Apple Tasting! If you’ve always wanted to know what apples grow well in our area and want to taste what freshly picked apples taste like, this event is for you! Bring your family and friends, too!
You’ll have the opportunity to taste rare, historic apples, apples you know and love, and new locally-bred apples being trialed with the public. Not all are just sweet, and some have red flesh — intriguing, eh? Our event will be in the charming historic apple orchard at the Ranch — a suitable setting for admiring apples! Come join the fun and make sure to vote for your favorite apple. Will the VIP apple re-assert its dominance in the list? Or will other recent top apples Brushy Mountain Limbertwig, Rachel’s Mystery, Stardust or Karmijn de Sonnaville pull ahead? Join us and help identify the top apple of the season!

Depending on the weather and ripening of apples each year, more than 70 different varieties of apples are available to taste, all freshly picked for the peak of flavor. Check out 2022’s event report for details and discussion of the various apples.
Once again, the MBCRFG is delighted to hold the Apple Tasting in conjunction with Wilder Ranch’s Heritage Harvest Festival. At this family-friendly event, you can participate in historical activities and living history demonstrations including blacksmithing, the Pelton water wheel, and machine shop demonstrations. Enjoy live old-time music, baked goods, and hand-cranked pumpkin ice cream for sale. Enjoy kids’ crafts and games as well as the scenic ranch location.
