In previous videos, Freddy covered the basics of grafting technique, and demonstrated and described the process of cleft-grafting a seedling avocado. In this video, we go through the entire operation of cutting back a full sized avocado tree and grafting it over to a new variety. This method yields a high success-rate, and should help turn a lot of poorly performing trees into valuable assets. Use this technique in any green-grafting situation, to topwork White Sapotes, Loquats, Pineapple Guavas, or any other non-dormant, graftable tree.

Nice. Just wish the video was higher resolution!
Freddy: Great information! I have a few questions.
I have an 9 year old Holiday that rarely produces. I would like to stump the tree and graft some scions from either my Hass, Jan Boyce or Ardith. 1) What is the preferred time of year for the stump retrofit grafting and also, 2) best time of year for general topworking. I have been very successful grafting apples and citrus but avacados are more of a challenge. I live in Tiburon CA on the Bay and my Hass is very productive. Ardith and Jan Boyce in pots for scions. Thank you, Scott Miller
